Tomorrow, Saturday, April 6, the second edition of the ‘La Bola-Pujada al Puig Major’ cyclo-sportive race will take place, giving cycling enthusiasts the opportunity to ascend to the summit of Mallorca and conquer the Bola del Puig Major, at 1,436 metres above sea level. In this edition, 800 participants will start the race and experience a unique adventure.
As was the case last year, the race will cover a distance of 51.5 kilometres, starting from Specialized Mallorca in the Són Rossinyol industrial estate at 8:30 a.m. and finishing at the Bola del Puig Major. Along the route, participants will face a neutralised section, as a cyclo-tourist ride, with all riders grouped together at an average speed of 25 km/h from the start until reaching the Sóller Firefighters’ facilities. After that, there will be a timed section of 29.3 kilometres to the Bola del Puig Major, with an intermediate checkpoint at the Military Base to time the final 7 kilometres of the ascent.
Conquering the roof of Mallorca, a summit that is closed to vehicular traffic for military safety reasons, is a great incentive for the riders taking part in the event. However, it won’t be the only reward, as the organisation will raffle among the participants, among other prizes, a high-end Tarmac SL8 bicycle, courtesy of Specialized Mallorca, valued at 6,500 euros. To enter the raffle, all participants must complete the race wearing the official race jersey.
This event would not be possible without the permissions and collaboration of the ACAR PUIG MAJOR – EVA 7 Air Base, with its commander María Cruz Acero at the helm, who for one day opens the base’s facilities to allow participants to enjoy a unique ascent and also the prize ceremony on the base’s esplanade.
