On April 5th, cycling enthusiasts in Mallorca will have the opportunity to experience a unique experience by ascending to the summit of Mallorca to conquer the Bola del Puig Major, 1,436 meters above sea level, thanks to the “La Bola” cycling tour, which was presented today by the organizers and its main sponsor, Specialized Mallorca, at the Sóller Military Base.
The event will be 51.6 kilometers long, starting from Specialized Mallorca, at the Son Rossinyol industrial estate, and finishing at the Bola del Puig Major. Along the route, participants will face a neutralized section, like a cycling tour, with all participants grouped together at the same average speed of 25 km/h from the start to the Sóller Fire Department. This will be followed by a 29.3-kilometer timed section to the Bola del Puig Major, with an intermediate timing point located at the Military Base, to mark the final kilometers of the climb. The day will conclude with a final celebration, with an awards ceremony and refreshments for all participants at the facilities of the Son Puig de Sóller Primary School.
Conquering the highest peak in Mallorca, a peak that is not open to road traffic for military security reasons, is a great incentive in itself for the runners participating in the race. But it will not be the only one, as the organizers will raffle off a high-end Tarmac SL8 bicycle, courtesy of Specialized Mallorca, valued at 7,000 euros. To be entered into the raffle, all participants must complete the race wearing the official race jersey.
The race presentation was attended by María Cruz Acero, commander of the Puig Major Air Barracks/EVA7; Rafael García, from s’Escapada Specialized Mallorca; Toni Marí, director of Radio Marca Baleares, the official radio station; and Manuel Hernández, director of Unisport Consulting, the organizing company. Registration for the event can be done online until March 31st on the official website https://bolapuigmajor.com/. On April 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, registration will be in person at the Specialized Mallorca facilities in the Son Rossinyol training ground.
