Nearly 500 cyclists will experience the unique experience of ascending to the summit of Mallorca tomorrow, Saturday, April 5th, to conquer the Bola del Puig Major peak, 1,436 meters above sea level, thanks to the third edition of the “La Bola” cycling race. The race will cover 51.6 kilometers, starting at 8:30 a.m. from Specialized Mallorca, at the Son Rossinyol industrial park, and finishing at the Bola del Puig Major peak.
Along the route, participants will face a neutralized section, like a cycling race, with all participants grouped together at the same average speed of 25 km/h from the start to the Sóller Fire Department. This will then include a timed section of 29.3 kilometers to the Bola del Puig Major peak, with an intermediate time-keeping point located at the Military Base, to mark the final kilometers of the climb. The day will conclude with a final celebration, with an awards ceremony and refreshments for all participants at the Son Puig de Sóller Primary School.
Conquering the highest peak in Mallorca, a peak that is not open to road traffic for military security reasons, is a great incentive in itself for the runners who participate in the race. But it won’t be the only one, as the organizers will raffle off a top-of-the-range Tarmac SL8 bicycle, courtesy of Specialized Mallorca, valued at €7,000. To be entered into the raffle, all participants must complete the race wearing the official race jersey.
